Entry 4 Summer Assignment

The reason why I chose the book Why We Broke Up to be my summer reading book out of all the choices on the list is because when I looked at the list and read through all the titles this one seemed like the most interesting, most relatable, and least boring. And yes I just read through the titles and the few that sounded interesting I looked for what the book was about and if that wasn't boring, and there was only one that wasn't very boring, got to be the book I had to read.  A connection I had with Min was when Min went through a certain event, and went through every little detail. What was said, where you were at, who was there, and when it was. That something that I do, I will look back at an event and go through everything, now I don't have a souvenir like Min does. But just like Min I have the memories.

This book is kind of a girly book. That goes back to the fact that this book is about a relationship and about their break up. Since it is in the point of view of Min, who is a girl, you see a girl's point of view of a relationship. You see that Min will go through literally every detail of the memory that is connected to the one souvenir she kept.

Entry 3 Summer Assignment

A section of Why We Broke Up that had the intention of hooking the reader's attention was this line in the beginning when Min said, "You know I want to be a director, but you could never truly see the movies in my head and that Ed, is why we broke up" (Handler 4). Who is saying this? Why does she want to be a director? Who is Ed? Why did they break up? What movie is in her head? How long were they dating? How did they meet? How old are they? Where do they live? Why could Ed not truly see the movie?

Those are all questions Daniel Handler intended for you to ask yourself when she wrote that line. That line is like a mystery when it is by itself. And with every mystery there are questions you ask and to find the answers to all those questions you have to dig deeper into the mystery. The author had this line placed in the last paragraph of the first chapter where is show the letter Min wrote to Ed. The reason it was put there was so not only for you as the reader but also for Ed, because this whole book is written from Min to Ed.

Entry 2 Summer Reading

In Why We Broke Up the only complex character is Min. In the book Min's desire is to go through all the souvenirs she kept from when she and Ed were dating, to go through all the memories, to 1) get over Ed and 2) find the reason or reasons why they broke up. The theme that is beginning to appear is remembrance. You know that remembrance is the theme because the whole book Min is going through all the memories she made with Ed when they were dating. Min was remembering all the good times she spent with Ed along with the bad times.

The way my book is structured is there are about 37 chapters and with the start of each chapter there is a picture. Each picture is different, because each chapter is a different memory. And each picture is of each of the souvenirs Min saved. In each chapter Min goes through her point of view of each date Min and Ed have ever been on. Min goes through all the motions and speech, she remembers every little thing each of them had ever said to each other, from the time they first talked to the time the last talked.
